For example, the new coronavirus can live on cardboard for 24 hours, and up to 2 or 3 days on stainless steel and plastic. So, you want to ensure that you maintain your home virus-free.
What Products Should You Use For Disinfecting
According to CDC, cleaning and disinfecting are two different things and, in their opinion, you should do a bit of both to maintain your home free from viruses, including the COVID-19. In their opinion, cleaning involves removing contaminants from a surface while disinfecting relates to killing pathogens.
One of the things that you should keep in mind is that COVID-19 is easier transmitted from person-to-person than via a surface. Nevertheless, the CDC still recommends that you clean and disinfect your homes at least once a day. This becomes even more important if you had to go out.
The Surfaces You Need To Clean And Disinfect Daily
When you are trying to make your home safe from the COVID-19, then you want to ensure that you clean and disinfect, on a daily basis, the following surfaces:
kitchen counters
bathroom counters
table surfaces
light switches
doorknobs
faucets and faucet knobs
game controllers
TV remote controls
toilets (seat and handle)
hard dining chairs (seat, back, and arms).
It's important to notice that this list isn't comprehensive since each home is different. For example, if you work from home or if you are currently working from home, then you should also clean and disinfect your desk surface, mousepads, among others.
What Products Should You Use For Disinfecting
After cleaning these surfaces with soapy water and a hand towel to remove any debris, dust, and contaminants, you should then start disinfecting them. Here are some of the products you can use to disinfect:
#1: Household Bleach:
You can use household bleach to disinfect surfaces. You can easily make a bleach solution by mixing 5 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water.
Notice that you should never mix household bleach with ammonia.
#2: Alcohol Solutions:
These should have at least 70% alcohol.
#3: Household Disinfectants:
In case you already have a household disinfectant at home, you can use it as well. Just make sure that you follow the instructions on the label.
